The Adriatic Arena in Pesaro, is one of the biggest sport structures in Italy with a capacity of 11.000 spectators. Due to its peculiar shape this arena is also known as L'Astronave (Spaceship) or Coccinella which means ladybug.

The arena was built in 1996 and inaugurated by no other than Luciano Pavarotti! L'Astronave is used for many purposes: from basketball matches, concerts and exhibits, to hosting one of the most important festivals in Italy, the "Rossini Opera Festival".

In collaboration with Maffeis Engineering S.p.A. the typical fabric stress of the fabric roof under external load action (wind and snow) has been verified; then secondly the structure has been analysed with a nonlinear global analysis taking into account the second order effects.

The entire roof was replaced with the T3117T PES/PVC membrane from the company Sioen Industries NV. A series of new connection details has been developed to avoid new damage. For instance in order to avoid water leakage, every new clamping plate had now closure flaps. The Sioen Fluo2Max is the membrane of superlatives. The summum of elegance and unrevealed excellence. A piece of art where the fabric becomes the reflectance of its masters mind, carved to a piece of art which unifies with its surroundings breathing into the atmosphere by its humble beauty. A material designed with our latest TiO2 and PVDF technologies for expression and creativity always being referred to by the coming generations. The signature of the master and his exclusive membrane, called fluo²max.

Taiyo-Europe chose this high performing Sioen material for this renovation project. The company specialises in textile architecture, from the design phase through to maintenance. The realisation of extraordinary and complex membrane tensile structures requires a high degree of know-how and lots of experience. At Taiyo Europe, a team of creative designers and engineers work side by side with architects and other experts in order to create technically demanding structures. Taiyo Europe's core team brings more than 100 years of international experience in the realisation of high-class membrane architecture to the table. The accumulated 360° membrane know how of Sioen, with over 110 years of textile tradition was decisive.

The job took almost 4 months. Taiyo Europe and Sioen Industries are proud to have achieved a very successful result. A success confirmed by the International Tennis Federation when they chose the Adriatic Arena for their Davis Cup.
